About me

Stein Brauten is my name and I was born in Lillehammer, Norway 29 January 1953. I’m a retired (1998) Major from the Norwegian Army (Army Signal Corps) for 27 years. For the last 21 years I’ve had Belgrade as a base and the last 6 years I have lived in Semedraz, about 6 km South of Gornji Milanovac.

Since 1992 I have worked with humanitarian organizations in the “Former Yugoslavia” – Serbia and Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Albania, Tanzania, South Africa, Lebanon  and Sudan. The work in Africa brought me to several countries on short term missions (1 – 3 months) among them Zambia, Lesotho, Malawi, Kenya, Chad, Niger and Benin.

My civilian professional capacities have mainly been within logistics and I have had positions as Logistics Coordinator and Transport Coordinator as well as Project Manager and Deputy Head of Delegation. I was the Head of Delegation (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies) in Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo) for one year (1995-1996).

From 1996 to 1998 I again joined the military ranks and worked as a staff officer (Civil Military Cooperation – CIMIC) with the Nordic-Polish Brigade Headquarters, Stabilization Force (SFOR) in Bosnia & Herzegovina. I was also with the United Nations Interim Forces In Lebanon (UNIFIL) for 6 months in 1980.

I’m a private pilot since 1995, but unfortunately with too little time to fly as much as I would like, but it gave me the possibilities to see, from above, the wildlife and nature in various countries of Africa. I also did a flight in a single engine, two seats Piper Tomahawk from Belgrade to Hamar and return.
